Mostra e rassegna dedicata ad una delle più importanti personalità del cinema italiano, ad una vera icona: Anna Magnani.
Nata il 7 Marzo del 1908, Anna Magnani, fin da piccola fu affidata alle cure della nonna materna, che la crebbe come fosse sua figlia. Oltre all’assenza della madre, farà i conti anche con quella del padre,che non conobbe mai personalmente.
La nonna, figura di riferimento per l’attrice, si impegnò molto per far crescere la nipote senza farle mancare nulla. La iscrisse ad un collegio di suore francesi (ove studia per poco), e le fece studiare pianoforte. Ma ben presto Anna capì la natura della sua vera passione…
Considerata attrice simbolo del realismo italiano, Anna Magnani seppe interpretare magistralmente i ruoli che i registi le affidarono.
Aveva la grande capacità di dare a ciascuno dei suoi personaggi un “qualcosa di sé”, una caratterizzazione che li rendeva più “persone”, più “reali”.
Non necessitava di grosse direttive durante le riprese. Le venivano date istruzioni generali e il resto era frutto della sua interpretazione, della sua improvvisazione.
Molti i registi con cui ha lavorato: da Fellini a Rossellini (con cui ebbe una relazione), giusto per citarne alcuni.

La mostra al Vittoriano, curata da Mario Sesti, regista, giornalista e critico cinematografico, ripercorre la filmografia dell’attrice, non trascurandone l’aspetto umano.
Grazie alla collaborazione con il centro sperimentale di cinematografia-cinetica nazionale dell’Istituto Luce Cinecittà, che ha messo a disposizione i suoi archivi fotografici, è possibile accedere ad una serie di informazioni più private ed intime della Magnani. La mostra include inoltre un documentario Rai Teche e una rassegna (ormai terminata) dei suoi più bei film:
“Bellissima” di Luchino Visconti
“Mamma Roma” di Pier Paolo Pasolini
“L’ amore” di Roberto Rossellini
Dopo la sua morte avvenuta nel 1973 a causa di un tumore al colon, molti i tributi in suo onore.
Tra i più importanti quello nel 2002 al Museum of Modern Art di New York che le dedica una retrospettiva con la proiezione dei 14 film più significativi che l’attrice ha interpretato.
