Le api sono un bene comune da salvaguardare.
Il loro ruolo è fondamentale, non solo perché producono miele, propoli e pappa reale.
Circa un terzo delle nostre colture infatti, fra cui rientrano quelle di frutta e verdura che consumiamo maggiormente, dipende dall’impollinazione operata degli insetti.
E le api fanno parte della categoria degli insetti impollinatori, di cui sono la specie più numerosa e quindi importante.
Gli apicoltori hanno segnalato un calo importante della loro presenza già a partire dalla fine del secolo scorso.
Le cause sono molteplici: parassiti, malattie. Ma sono soprattutto sono i cambiamenti climatici, la perdita del loro habitat naturale e i pesticidi nocivi ad essere i responsabili della loro morte.
Se questi preziosi insetti sparissero, le conseguenze sarebbero devastanti. L’impollinazione artificiale è una pratica faticosa, lenta e costosa. Tutto questo influirebbe sulla produzione agricola e quindi sull’economia.
Ma a prescindere dal fattore economico, che comunque è importante, le api sono un bene da salvaguardare per il ruolo fondamentale che rivestono nella tutela della biodiversità e dell’ambiente.
Sono molte le associazioni che combattono per la loro salvaguardia.
BEE LIFE; Greenpeace: SALVIAMO LE API; CooBEEration, sono solo alcuni esempi. Queste associazioni operano, con iniziative di vario genere, per denunciare la situazione critica in cui riversano gli insetti impollinatori e per sensibilizzare l’opinione pubblica.
La strada è lunga e in salita. Ma si intravedono degli spiragli di luce.
Un paio di mesi fa circa, è stato raggiunto un importante traguardo: la messa a bando, da parte degli Stati membri dell’Europa, di pesticidi neonicotinoidi in campo aperto.

Partecipando a Bee my Future si possono adottare per un anno cinquecento api degli alveari. L’apicoltore, oltre a prendersene cura, le utilizza per la produzione di miele biologico. Con l’adozione si può scegliere un kit da 4, 8 o 12 vasetti di miele da mezzo chilo, con tanto di etichette da brandizzare a proprio piacimento.

Conclusioni
L’estinzione delle api, degli insetti impollinatori, avrebbe conseguenze devastanti per l’intero sistema ambientale. Le api sono un bene da salvaguardare. Anche per questo è necessario proteggerle.
Dalle api c’è solo da imparare: meticolosità, laboriosità, perfetto emblema dell’organizzazione sociale, come sosteneva Tolstoj.
Sarebbe il caso, anche questa volta, di fermarsi un attimo a riflettere e di provare ad innescare il cambiamento che garantirebbe un futuro migliore per tutti.
